Strengthen Your Faith Through Faith Formation
At St. Cassian Church, we seek to assist parishioners in building an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ and developing a strong Christian community here at St. Cassian. Faith formation deepens our understanding of our core beliefs as Catholics, the liturgy and the sacraments, scripture, prayer, and how we are to live as disciples of Jesus. We hope to provide a foundation for a life-long education of the whole person and to encourage parishioners to actively live out their faith through loving service to others especially the most vulnerable and marginalized.
The following programs are open for the 2024-2025 year.
Faith Formation Classes (CCD)
Faith formation for children in grades 1-8 will be held in person from September 2024 – May 2025. Classes are held at St. Cassian School. The following sessions are available
- Sunday from 10:30 am – 11:30 am
- Tuesday from 5:30 pm – 6:30 pm
- Monday from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm
St. Cassian follows curriculum that has been approved by the Archdiocese of Newark.
St. Cassian’s faith formation program is adaptive for children and teens with special needs. Using curriculum materials and related resources, catechists tailor lessons to meet the needs of those enrolled both to grow in their relationship with God and also to prepare for the sacraments.
Are You Called To Be a Catechist?
Our program is staffed by volunteer catechists. It starts when we say “I believe,” with a humble heart that says “yes” to living as a disciple of Jesus. Catechesis is a gift that allows us to formally teach others on a weekly basis to do the same.
Calendar
Our Program runs from late September until early May. We try to align our schedule with that of the local public school calendars. You can check back here during the summer for the posting of our 2024–2025 calendar. The calendar will be updated throughout the year with any important changes.
Adult Faith Formation (RCIA)
Our church welcomes new adult members through a process called Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). If you or someone you know is interested in becoming Catholic or completing their entrance into our church through Baptism, Holy Eucharist, or Confirmation, please contact Greg Hann.
Children’s Liturgy
Children in Grades Third through Fifth are invited to be part of our Children’s Liturgy program. The program is divided into three groups that meet each Sunday during the 9:00 AM Mass. Our Director of Religious Education, Mary Flanagan and two trained volunteers discuss the theme of Sunday’s Mass and the liturgical season with the children.
Sacrament Preparation
Children are prepared for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Holy Communion during first and second grade and receive the sacraments during the second grade. Confirmation is celebrated during the spring of eighth grade. The candidates are prepared during seventh and eighth grades.
Family Resources
Our new Advent family resource is available! Please share this timely resource with the families of your parish.
